...hunting for cake tips and tricks on the internet, searching for the perfect base cake recipe, trying to get this carving thing, mastering crumb coating and improving your fondant skills...
You have literally seen all the free tutorials on youtube, exhausted all the free resources but still...
I'm not saying that you have to be a school trained pastry chef to succeed in the cake world.
Youtube IS the thing to get you started, but there comes a point where you need to decide:
Your time is your most precious asset and if you don't want to spend all your life being a
halfway-decent cake decorator,
or
be stuck as a hobby baker for life
or even end up on the infamous Cakewrecks...
Believe in yourself enough to invest into making your dream come true!
Invest the price of a coffee and a magazine into your professional training and make your cake dreams come true!
You want to step up one level from freebie seeking to professional training.
Now what?
You can enrol to your local patisserie school. If there is one in your area.
Also, you can attend local cake decorating workshops.
What's more, you can catch a famous cake decorator on tour somewhere around the world.
You might say, a pastry school is a no go. You just can't afford to go back to school and that's a fact. I can't blame you for that.
Let's look at cake decorating workshops...
They are a great opportunity to polish your skills, once you have done your fair share of practice at home.
Good ones offer one on one or small group sessions with maximum 3-4 people.
That is a great way to get the tutor's (almost) undivided attention.
If you can afford the time and money, you should absolutely go for them!
But what if they don't offer the designs you yearn to make?
What if there are no good classes in your area?
What if you simply cant afford to pay $300-$500 or even $1000 for a one-day workshop?
I said invest, not go broke...
